Approximately 60 years old, it reflects the traditional weaving culture of Anatolia and carries the unique character developed through decades of age and use.
The main design is based on a mihrab, the recessed niche found in a mosque wall that indicates the direction of prayer. Traditional Turkish weavers adapted this architectural element into prayer rugs by creating an arched or pointed central area that symbolically defines the prayer space. Rugs with this composition are commonly known as mihrab rugs or Turkish prayer rugs.
This example presents the mihrab in a highly decorative and pictorial style.
